My massive problem of passive road rage

It is confession time yet again at Sangrywords – on popular demand, this time on my passive road rage.

Fasten your seat belts, here is the laundry list:

1.     Yes it’s true, I swear at people who cut the queue jump in front of my car without indicators to save a mirco-minute.
2.     The even more annoying ones are those who tail-gate as they are in urgent need to attend to a severe case of diarrhoea.
3.     Must not forget the ones who talk on the phone and do not mind even if they are out their lanes.
4.     Aha and lets also mention those ladies who apply make up while driving in the speed lane.
5.     And then are those who drive at a snail's-pace-60 where you can go upto 100km/hr.
6.     The frustrating and tentative jaywalking pedestrians.
7.     The last one are the kinds that I have witnessed only in this part of the world - driving with one foot resting on the window or the dashboard (no, not a typo!).

What’s so passive about all these things you may ask?

The reality is, all of the above are acceptable as long as I am at the driver seat - I can duck, dive and drive away. But all bets are off when I am at the passenger seat. I was busted recently when my husband  caught me swearing  a not so innocent rash driver. And just after that, my husband found my first edit of Take care, Not chances post to be bordering on being snobbish.

After a lot of soul searching, I am left to wonder if should be attending a Road-rage anonymous group (passive division). If there isn't such a thing - perhaps, I could be the founding member and the patron.

I am currently on the lookout for fellow addicts. Let me know if you any of you suffer from the same condition by sharing your story.

  2. Fear not Sangeeta, I am definitely there with you in the club.Since I dont drive my road rage is always passive. My husband actually had to stop me from getting into a scuffle with a bus driver who had created a massive jam. And this was me when i was eight months preggers so you can imagine how bad my case is. :-)

  7. Applying make up while driving? can they do that? wow...just shows ppl will give up common sense to prove they can do whatever they want n then flaunt it in others faces...

BTW Thanks for following my blog...

    1. Yes they can .. and apparently there is a specific provision here in UAE where the cops can fine lady drivers if caught applying make-up and driving together !!

  9. Haha... u reminded me of my Dad... He has the habit of swearing at people who don't follow the rules! And especially when i'm on the driver seat, he throws curses even on the poor bicycle rider! LOL.. that sets me and my mom go into fits of laughter! :D

    1. Pranita I think I have to partially blame my dad for this behaviour. Back in Delhi when I used to travel with him just like your dad he would get angry and so to make sure he does not spoil his mood I would yell first .. Dad in bad mood was definitely not a good thing for me or for out family!!

now if only u were to visit kota u will agree that i m the "supremest" sufferer of passive r r ...d traffic here beats all d rules ever made-& with all impunity...here pedestrians will cross your car after a tiny gesture of their hand....u can honk for all u r worth but nobody looks back.

    1. I think this happens everywhere Indu, initially I thought it was just our country, road accidents are big problem here and the RTA here is making tremendous effort by generating awareness ...

One of the best suggestions they have is - Beware of other's mistakes.

  12. One of the reasons I do not drive is because of road rage. If I am not driving, I am like one calm iceberg.

  13. Loved the post and could not, not relate to it.. Especially #4 and #5.. I see them every day on SZR and have this urge to actually run into them.. Since I cannot, I actually manage to overtake some of them and do the same what they do to me.. Cut in without indicators, and once even slammed the brakes!!!

One of the reasons, I prefer to avoid driving inside Dubai, as have zero patience for such idiots.. The group probably exists, am looking for it myself :)

    1. Rajesh - don't tell me you've never seen a lady putting on lipstick on speed lane? Really? Especially on a working morning or Friday night ... and then #5 I was referring to the ones who go slow on the 2nd speed track on SZR ..

I think we have enough candidates to start the group :D

  14. You've got a compatriot here! However, I've got to mute it often because I can't swear like crazy when with my family. Especially since I ride the bike more, I tend to get more p***ed off with jackasses while driving the car.

Not sure if you want to get rid of it. But I've seen drivers with so much patience its not funny. Plus it leaves them in a calmer state of mind. Maybe if we simply accept this is how things will be in India, we'll calm down too.

If you decide to pioneer some road rage anon community here, I'll be the 1st to join. ;)

  19. Lol.. nice post.

agree to Vishal above, it'll be no rage if we accept the system of driving here. We'll still drive the same (u cannot 'not' jump the queue else u'll be stuck where u r,, there is no chivalry on Indian roads).

I liked what Oprah recently said when she came to India tht when she first got on the road, she was shocked and scared. But then after a while she realised that although there's whole chaotic-ism on Indian roads, people still understand the flow and drive about. SOmeone from the outside may not understand it at first, but they do eventually.

  20. Wow, I felt as if you're talking about Pune; except the last point all others are true (putting a leg on the dashboard while driving, are you serious?)
I swear a lot, a lot means a lot. In fact, at times I stop my car and then fight also with these people. The only difference is that I myself drive in a decent manner, really! I mean it.
But, do you know where the problem lies? Especially in India?? It happens right in the front of the traffic police who are busy extorting some bribe from an unlucky rider!!!! Recently my friend has suggested me to put a new gadget on my car which will at least stop me from swearing and will keep my BP in control. This gadget works on a remote control and make faces on people (it is installed on your wind-shield). I am gonna install this. Why don't you get one too :)

  24. The pedestrians in India thinks that the road is their private property. You are the trespasser.

Many cars are driven by hired drivers. Most are semiliterate. When a bus driver becomes such 'hired driver' of a car, its a dangerous thing.
